Hello,

I would appreciate any advice you might have on model selection:

Looking for a tractor for use on 14 acres. Most of the land is currently wooded.

Things I would like to do:

- Moderate FEL use (I have about 2,000 feet of stone wall that needs rehab, and a ton of rock that needs moved about)

- Help with clearing - brush, smaller tree cleanup

- The ability to mow but not a concern for another 12-24 months

- Minimal snow removal

Please note that my father has a BX23. While I will have very little use for the backhoe, if possible, it would be nice to have the option of stealing it for a week.

It would also be nice to be as close to his machine as possible for repair knowledge.

I would just borrow dads BX23 to see if that's big enough for the jobs you have. If not, move up accordingly. The backhoe won't fit anything you buy without the attaching hardware that is part of the tractor, and you'd need the swivel seat too.
A bigger machine will make the work go faster, but I think a BX will do what you want.

I normally recommend 23-25 hp PTO for that size property. Smaller than this and you will be two full days trying to bush hog the fields. I had a JD 750 and tried to clear the fields here and found it was way too much seat time every few weeks. ....

I like my New Holland TC33D hydrostat with Super Steer. I brush hog commerically and can fly through fields in top range (about 14 mph) cutting 3-4' weeds. I do grading with it. For me it's the perfect size. ....

I'd second the comment on trying the BX 23 on you property. They are a bargin for what they can do as long as you aren't looking to do a major logging of your property with it. They are like a swiss army knife for a home owner. There are larger machines that might do some jobs faster but then you loose for other things and it might require another unit to do other jobs. ....
